Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about getting started, how sessions work, and what to expect.
Yes — recurring weekly or bi-weekly sessions are the heart of our practice and how meaningful, lasting progress happens. Once we complete an initial evaluation and develop your care plan, we will schedule a regular cadence that works for your life. Consistency is key, and we work to protect your standing appointment.
Absolutely. We offer a free 15-minute phone or video consultation for all new and prospective clients. This is a no-obligation conversation to discuss your goals, ask questions, and decide together whether Steady Voice is the right fit. You can schedule your consultation through our secure booking portal.
Yes. A growing body of research supports the effectiveness of teletherapy for a wide range of speech and language needs — including articulation, language disorders, fluency, and voice. Outcomes are generally comparable to in-person services. For many clients, teletherapy has important advantages: no commute, familiar environment, and easier caregiver involvement, all of which can actually support better carry-over of skills into everyday life. We also offer in-home sessions for families who prefer face-to-face care.
Yes. In addition to teletherapy, we offer in-person sessions in your home within Virginia. In-home therapy can be especially effective for young children and clients who do best in their natural environment. Sessions take place at your residence at a scheduled time. Please reach out to confirm availability in your area of Virginia and to discuss whether in-home services are the right fit for your situation.
All sessions take place through our secure, HIPAA-conscious client portal. The specific video platform is confirmed at intake — we use tools that are either HIPAA-compliant by design or covered by a signed Business Associate Agreement (BAA). You do not need to download specialised software; most sessions run through a standard web browser.
Steady Voice operates as a HIPAA-conscious practice. This website does not collect protected health information (PHI). All clinical activities — scheduling, intake forms, consent, session links, notes, and billing — are handled through a HIPAA-conscious client portal. We do not transmit PHI through standard email or unencrypted channels. That said, individual HIPAA compliance is always evolving, and we encourage you to reach out with specific questions about data handling.
We accept select insurance plans. Because coverage varies significantly by plan, we recommend contacting us to verify your specific benefits before your first appointment. We can also provide a superbill — an itemised receipt with billing codes — for clients who wish to seek reimbursement from their insurance company directly (out-of-network benefits).
We work with clients across the lifespan — from toddlers and school-aged children through adolescents and adults. Our services span early language development, school-age language and literacy, fluency, voice, social communication, and adult communication needs. If you are unsure whether we serve a particular age or profile, please reach out — we are happy to discuss.
Once your appointment is confirmed, you will receive instructions through our secure portal to complete intake forms, consent documents, and any relevant background questionnaires before your first session. We also recommend: (1) finding a quiet, comfortable space with good lighting for the call; (2) testing your camera and microphone beforehand; and (3) gathering any prior evaluations or school reports if available. We will walk you through any remaining steps.
A stable internet connection makes for a much better experience, but sessions can often proceed with modest connections. If connectivity is a concern, we can discuss options — including phone-based coaching for certain session types. We will always work with you to find a solution rather than cancel unnecessarily.
Yes, and we strongly encourage it. Caregiver involvement is one of the most powerful predictors of progress in speech therapy, especially for younger children. We offer parent coaching sessions specifically, and also routinely include a few minutes of caregiver check-in at the end of therapy sessions. You are not a passive observer — you are an essential part of the team.
Speech-language pathology licensure is state-specific. Anna is currently licensed in Virginia and can only serve clients who reside in Virginia. If you are located outside of Virginia, we are unable to provide services at this time. We want to be fully transparent about this so there is no confusion — your safety and our compliance matter.
Simply schedule a free 15-minute consultation through our secure booking portal — the link is in the navigation above. We look forward to meeting you and helping you take the first step toward clearer, more confident communication.
