Frequently asked questions
Everything you need to know about getting started, what sessions look like, and what to expect from working with me.
Yes. Recurring weekly or bi-weekly sessions are how meaningful, lasting progress actually happens. Once we complete an initial evaluation and build your care plan together, I will set up a regular schedule that works for your life. I prioritize protecting your standing appointment because consistency matters.
Absolutely. I offer a free 15-minute phone or video consultation for all new and prospective clients. It is a relaxed, no-obligation conversation where you can share what is going on, ask whatever is on your mind, and get a feel for whether we are a good fit. No pressure, no paperwork. You can book directly through the scheduling portal.
Yes, and the research backs it up. Teletherapy has strong evidence for a wide range of speech and language needs including articulation, language disorders, fluency, and voice. Outcomes are generally comparable to in-person services. I have found that many families actually prefer it because there is no commute, clients are in a familiar environment, and caregivers can be naturally involved.
Sessions take place through my secure, HIPAA-conscious client portal. I use video tools that are either HIPAA-compliant by design or covered by a signed Business Associate Agreement. You do not need to download anything special; most sessions run right in your web browser. I will walk you through the setup before your first appointment.
Steady Voice operates as a HIPAA-conscious practice. This website does not collect any protected health information. All clinical activities, including scheduling, intake forms, consent, session links, notes, and billing, are handled through a HIPAA-conscious client portal. I do not transmit PHI through standard email or unencrypted channels. If you have specific questions about how I handle data, please reach out.
Steady Voice Pathways is a private-pay practice. Payment is due at the time of service. I can provide superbills upon request for eligible evaluation and treatment services. A superbill is an itemized receipt with billing codes that you submit to your insurer for potential out-of-network reimbursement. Whether your insurer reimburses you is up to them and not guaranteed. Consultative services, IEP meeting attendance, and some coaching services typically do not qualify for reimbursement.
I work with a range of clients and communication profiles. My areas of focus include language development, literacy, fluency, voice, social communication, and AAC. If you are wondering whether your situation is a good fit, the free consultation is the best place to start — just ask.
After your appointment is confirmed, you will get instructions through the secure portal to complete intake forms, consent documents, and any background questionnaires. Before your first video session, I recommend finding a quiet, well-lit space, testing your camera and microphone, and pulling together any prior evaluations or school reports if you have them. I will guide you through anything else before we get started.
A solid connection helps, but modest connections can usually get us through a session. If it is a real concern, we can talk through options including phone-based coaching for certain session types. I would rather problem-solve with you than cancel.
Yes, and I genuinely encourage it. Caregiver involvement is one of the strongest predictors of progress in speech therapy. I build caregiver coaching into most plans and include a check-in at the end of sessions to share what we worked on and what to practice at home. You are not a passive observer. You are the most important part of this.
Speech-language pathology licensure is state-specific, and I am currently licensed in Virginia only. I can only serve clients who are physically located in Virginia. If you are outside Virginia, I am not able to provide services at this time. I want to be upfront about this so there is no confusion.
Book a free 15-minute consultation through the scheduling portal. That is it. We will talk, I will answer your questions, and we will figure out together if Steady Voice is the right fit. I look forward to meeting you.
